Henk-Jan’s soundtrack to 11-20 June 2021

Each day I add music to my soundtrack to 2021 Spotify playlist. Here is the second batch for June.

Friday 11 June: Willow Avenue – Museums

After a long time, I was off today to visit two museums in Amsterdam, that had been closed for months due to the pandemic.

Saturday 12 June: Starflyer 59 – Life in Bed

Life In Bed, the brand new Starflyer 59 single, is cinematic and melancholy in sound and feel, evoking Leonard Cohen’s eighties period, longtime Martin inspirations Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen, and fellow late-night contemporaries Lambchop. Expect the full album Vanity to land in August.

Sunday 13 June: Sunflower Bean – Moment in the Sun

Sunday…time for moments in the sun with the family to celebrate my birthday and relax.

Monday 14 June: CHVRCHES & Robert Smith – How Not To Drown

Taken from CHVRCHES‘ upcoming album Screen Violence, here’s How Not To Drown featuring Robert Smith (The Cure).

Tuesday 15 June: Sting – Fragile

Health, emotional balance, and other ‘certainties’ are fragile.

Wednesday 16 June: The Sunclub & Red Lemon – Hot Summernight (Papa Chico)

Let the early morning fresh air fill the house, start working from home and keep the warmth outside by closing the door to the garden terrace. This recipe works fine. No airconditioning needed.

Thursday 17 June: Infacted Allstars & Grendel – Childen

Grendel’s version of the #1 instrumental hit Children (1995) by the Swiss-Italian dream house producer Robert Miles is playing along this #throwbackthursday. You can check out the full album Dreamland (1996) to revisit Children and other hits like Fable and One and One. New remixed can be bought from Infacted Allstars’ Bandcamp page. And: Dutch background information why Children became a hit.

Friday 18 June: Schiller – Beyond the Horizon

Schiller released a new instrumental track Beyond the Horizon, following his Summer in Berlin album today, fit for a long roundtrip between Balkbrug and Knegsel.

Saturday 19 June: Martin Garrix, Bono, The Edge – We Are the People

The UEFA 2020 championship anthem song by Dutch DJ/producer Martin Garrix (Martijn Gerard Garritsen) and U2 members Bono and The Edge can’t be ignored in this playlist. Thursday evening results: Netherlands 2-0 Austria: Dutch impress to reach last 16.

Sunday 20 June: Amy Grant – Don’t Ever Want to Lose It (Wind in the Fire)

It’s been 30 years ago that Amy Grant released Heart in Motion. You surely remember Baby, Baby as cross-over success and #1 hit. This anniversary was celebrated with a new single, Don’t Ever Want to Lose It (Wind in the Fire).
