Henk-Jan’s soundtrack to 21-31 May 2021

Each day I add music to my soundtrack to 2021 Spotify playlist. Here is the third batch for May.

Friday 21 May: Stefania – Last Dance

Stefania represented Greece in the Second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The singer lives in Utrecht, Netherlands, which makes her contribution special.

Saturday 22 May: Go_A – SHUM

Shum, (Ukrainian: Шум, translated as Noise) is a song by Ukrainian electro-folk band Go_A, the country’s steam punk/electropop submission to the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam. I really love this track! It’s a cranked-up version of the original single Шум. For a long time during counting the votes, this song was at #1, just as I had preferred. Nevertheless, Italy’s rockers won.

Sunday 23 May: Petra – Holy Ghost Power

It’s Pentecost or Whit Sunday. We’re celebrating that God’s Holy Ghost came with the power to fulfill followers of Jesus Christ to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom of heaven and life everlasting for those who acknowledge him as their Salvator. Good old rock band Petra sings about the Holy Ghost Power, a track from their 1977 album Come and Join Us.

Monday 24 May: Eden Alene – Set Me Free

Israel sent Eden Alene to the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam to showcase Set Me Free. She didn’t win, unfortunately.

Tuesday 25 May: Hooverphonic – The Wrong Place

Belgium’s submission to this weekend’s Eurovision Song Contest 2021 is a solid mid-tempo pop song without bells and whistles. Hooverphonic is an ambient pop group who initially became known for their moody, playful take on trip-hop during the mid-’90s. No newbies 🙂 The song, however, was not valued by the televoters and became last of 26.

Wednesday 26 May: Argh & Glenn Main – Out of My Mind

New synthpop love song by Glenn Main and his band ARGH friendly nodding to the 1980s.

Thursday 27 May: Alphaville, Blank & Jones, Gold & Lloyd – Sounds Like a Melody

Sounds Like a Melody is a song by the German group Alphaville, from the group’s debut album Forever Young (1984). German electronic music duo Blank & Jones and Gold & Lloyd gave it a special treatment in 2020. Celebrate #throwbackthursday

Friday 28 May: Aly & J – Symptom of Your Touch

American duo Aly & J are back with a new album titled a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun.

Saturday 29 May: Tiësto – The Business

Upon leaving the lively village Spijk today, a DJ played The Business by Tiësto. A perfect beat to sync the walking pace to.

Sunday 30 May: Humans on the Floor – The Sun is Finally Shining

Finally, we got rid of grey skies, rain and wind. Sunday came with 20 degrees Celcius, a blue sky and lots of sunshine.

Monday 31 May: Future of Forestry – Listening

Last Friday, Remember, the new album from Future of Forestry was released. Spotify had a busy weekend streaming it over and over again.
