Henk-Jan’s soundtrack to 1-10 April 2021

Each day I add music to my soundtrack to 2021 Spotify playlist. Here is the first batch for April.

Thursday 1 April: Death Cab for Cutie – Waterfalls

This #throwbackthursday is for Death Cab for Cutie with their rendering of Waterfalls, the Amerikcan girl-band TLC 1995 hit.

Friday 2 April: The Young Matthew Passion – O Sacred Head Surrounded

You could say that nothing beats the original Mattheüs Passion written in 1727 by Johann Sebastian Bach, although Tom Parker’s 1983 Young Matthew Passion with English lyrics sung by the New London Chorale are at least easier to follow than the German ones usually sung by choirs or high-pitched vocalists, although I found a Dutch translation by Jan Rot today as well.

Saturday 3 April: Blaudzun – Real Hero

Blaudzun‘s back with a new single about the lust for life.

Sunday 4 April: Daniel Marx MD – Hij is opgestaan

Jesus Christ’s resurrection is the reason to celebrate Easter.

Monday 5 April: Kari Jobe – Forever

The resurrected King is to be glorified! Kari Jobe’s live version of Forever. If you’ve time to read, please check the blog Is ‘Forever’ Biblical? get into the nitty, gritty details of Jobe’s biblical interpretation and songwriting skills.

Tuesday 6 April: Justin Bieber – Where You Go I Follow

Justin Bieber surprised his fans by dropping a 6-song EP Freedom. during the Easter weekend packed with Christian content. I hand picked Where You Go I Follow featuring R&B vocalist Pink Sweats, worship leader and musician Chandler Moore & Churchhome lead pastor Judah Smith.

Wednesday 7 April: Park Haven – Problems

Smooth synth pop to accompany the day. Park Haven is an electro-pop duo from Sydney, born out of a husband and wife’s curiosity of what they could create together to reconcile their differing musical backgrounds of musical theatre and indie rock.

Thursday 8 April: LukHash & Meredith Bull – Big in Japan

Synth pop legends were revived for this #throwbackthursday. LukHash & Meredith Bull covered Alphaville‘s Big in Japan (1984).

Friday 9 April: Andy Hunter – Amazing Grace

British DJ and producer Andy Hunter released Presence, Vol. 5 today. Amidst the danceable tunes, I found his rendering of Amazing Grace featuring Sam Goudie, Explorer, maker & believer. Founder of @homamoco. Guitarist and husband to @bethgoudiemusic.

Saturday 10 April: Mary Mary – Walking

It’s Saturday, time to walk. I completed a 23.3kms track in Midden-Drenthe. I selected Walking by Mary Mary from their 2011 album Something Big.
