Each day I add music to my soundtrack to 2020 Spotify playlist. Here’s the list for the first ten days in August.
Saturday 1 August: Dash Berlin & Haliene – New Dawn
I woke up at dawn to drive to Brille in the very west of the Netherlands to enjoy a long-distance walk and a visit to the temporary drive-thru museum in Ahoy Rotterdam with pieces of art from the Boijmans Van Beuningen collection. Dash Berlin collaborated with American singer Kelly Melissa Sweet, professionally known as Haliene to deliver their fresh single New Dawn.
Sunday 2 August: Isac Elliot – Weekend
It’s the final weekend of our summer holiday break. Time to review Saturday’s walk, museum, and the recent book I read and movie that I watched. We had Sunday morning service in church and fresh mint tea, rain, and abundant sunshine.
Monday 3 August: Café Ibiza Chillout Lounge – Fresh Energy
The holiday’s over. Restart working from home
Tuesday 4 August: Promoe, Cosmic, Tenor Diamond & TEKA – Bureacrazy
I met some real bureaucrats today.
Wednesday 5 August: Nova – Auora
We just had a conversation over lunch about public or commercial Dutch radio stations not broadcasting every musical genre. Our youngest daughter is fond of K-pop, which is neglected on the radio, although BTS has a sold-out stadium in Rotterdam in no time. Right after dinner, the regional radio station NOOS played Aurora, a #1 hit in 1982 by Dutch electronic music band Nova. I was only 12 by then and a true fan of their music, replaying all their tunes on our electronic organ. Nowadays, it would be a crazy idea to end up at #1 in the top-40 with such an instrumental tune. Still, I love this track.
Thursday 6 August: Hurts – Wonderwall
For this #throwbackthursday Hurts recently covered Oasis’ Wonderwall. To refresh your memory, here’s the video clip of the 1995 hit song.
Friday 7 August: Apollo LTD – Patient
Apollo LTD confirms that in a VUCA world we need patience.
Saturday 8 August: David Bagatelle – Too Hot To Walk
I went out for a 37kms trail around Hoogeveen, but for most of the people it was simply too hot to walk.
Sunday 9 August: Mickey Richards – Airbed
A power nap on an airbed in our garden was exactly what I needed after a broken, sweaty night.
Monday 10 August: Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine – Hot Summer Nights
Need I say more?
