Henk-Jan’s soundtrack to 1-10 April 2020

Each day I add music to my soundtrack to 2020 Spotify playlist. Here’s the list for the first ten days in the second quarter of 2020.

Wednesday 1 April: Show Luo – No Joke

COVID-19 / Corona outcasted jokes on April’s Fool Day.

Thursday 2 April: Hailee Steinfeld – I Love You’s

American actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld (23) covered Annie Lennox‘s No More I Love You’s originally on her 1995 Medusa album. First the original video clip, then the cranked up to a new version. #throwbackthursday

Friday 3 April: Oh Wonder – Lonely Star

Oh Wonder would tour in Europe these days with me attending their gig in Amsterdam. Corona forced the duo to get back to the UK and proceed to make beautiful music from there. They did it from their home studio. From the Home Tapes result, Lonely Star is the first fruit. “Literally at this second. Like in everything that’s happening in the world. Being a human is pretty much the hardest thing to be.”

Saturday 4 April: Melanie C – Who I Am

Melanie C (yes, one of the Spice Girls) released this new single. She still knows how to deliver sound synth-pop.

Sunday 5 April: K3 / Alles Kids – Handjes Wassen

Unfortunately, K3’s remake of their Handjes draaien into Handjes Wassen to educate children to wash their hands during the corona crisis is not available on Spotify. A song with the same title therefore next to the video clip of K3’s.

Monday 6 April: Ali B, Poke & Judeska – Anderhalf

The social distancing and corona crisis inspires artists to remake songs or compose new ones. This Dutch production is raw and blunt.

Tuesday 7 April: Annelie – Tuesday

Tuesday, day 18 working from home.

Wednesday 8 April: Ella Vos – Burning Bridges

EQMusic blog suggested me to listen to Ella Vos‘ music yesterday. I did, liked the smooth pop a la Gabrielle Aplin. Ella Vos on the song: “‘Burning Bridges’ is about setting healthy boundaries. I’ve always struggled with boundaries and have a hard time speaking up for what I want or need. I constantly try to make everyone else feel okay, even if I suffer,” Vos says. “When I became a mom, had postpartum depression, got diagnosed with lymphoma and went through a divorce, it was clear that if I was going to survive, I needed to make some changes. I learned that taking care of myself first was the best way I could take care of the people around me.”

Thursday 9 April: Jeff McCall & Suzanne Letting – The Neverending Story

It’s #throwbackthursday again. Last week I found a new version of Limahl‘s 1984 hit The Neverending Story as covered by Jeff McCall & Suzanne Letting.

Friday 10 April: The Loft Party – Broken Connection

No internet, telephony or television by Ziggo since Thursday 14.55h until possibly 18.55h tonight. Right, we now know what it feels be without for 28 hours.
