Memorable songs of 1-10 December 2017

As follow-up to 2016’s HotSpotify 366 challenge, for which I added one special song each day to a Spotify playlist, I created Henk-Jan’s soundtrack to 2017 in Spotify. A memorable song each day. A retrospective on the past 10 days.

Friday 1 December: Kate Boy – True Colors

Kate Boy’s still alive. The duo’s back with the single True Colours.

Saturday 2 December: Vaylon – Back to Life

More synth pop down the line. Vaylon‘s here with the new track Back to Life from his 4-song EP Deux.

Sunday 3 December: Nemesea – Hear Me

Don’t worry. I still know what rock music is. In last Friday’s Release Radar playlist I discovered Hear Me from Nemesea, notably a Dutch band from Groningen featuring their new singer, Sanne Mieloo.

Monday 4 December: Jes – Get Me Through the Night

“When the night brings out the sadness of a messed up love, that emptiness can be filled with the strength of pushing through the bad times,” says JES when asked about the lyrics. “I wanted to write something that put that idea of light and dark into the context of a relationship, because it all comes down to not giving up and having faith that you will pull through in the end.”

Tuesday 5 December: Coole Piet Diego – Het Raadsel van 5 December

Sinterklaas festivities in the Netherlands. Though politically loaded these years the chrildren’s fest around this once Turkish Christian bishop that was at the core of both the Sinterklaas as well as Santa Claus holidays may have some funny, unbelievable, and silly things in it. That should be the enigma of 5 December.

Thursday 7 December: Midge Ure – Dancing with Tears in My Eyes – Orchestrated

Midge Ure (Visage, Ultravox) released Orchestrated. Twelve hit songs reimagined with an orchestra. Speaking of #throwbackthursday

Friday 8 December: Blaudzun – Rotterdam

Today I visited a couple of art museums in the city of Rotterdam. Blaudzun‘s been there too.

Saturday 9 December: Philippa Hanna – I Saw the Light

Today I visited museums in Eindhoven, Philips headquarters and a city of light. Taken from Philippa Hanna’s brand new album Come Back Fighting, here’s I Saw the Light.

Sunday 10 December: Cindy Berger – Immer Wieder Sonntags

Cindy & Bert‘s 1973 classic Immer Wieder Sonntags (On every given Sunday) is a kind of ear bug popping up every now and then. Today we visited the Christmas markets in downtown Düsseldorf.
