Memorable songs of 21-31 July 2017

As follow-up to 2016’s HotSpotify 366 challenge, for which I added one special song each day to a Spotify playlist, I created Henk-Jan’s soundtrack to 2017 in Spotify. A memorable song each day. A retrospective on the past 11 days.

Friday 21 July: Bryan Kearney & Plumb – All Over Again

Plumb lended her signature vocals to the Irish DJ / producer Bryan Kearney‘s trance track All Over Again. A dancefloor filler, Armin van Buuren picked it up as part of his A State of Trance episode 819.

Saturday 22 July: Maggie Reilly – To France

A song with a history. Maggie Reilly did the vocals on the 1984 version on Mike Oldfield’s studio album Discovery. Reilly was also the vocalist of Moonlight Shadow. In 1996 Maggie re-recorded To France for her Elena solo album. And in 2009 she did it again for her Looking Back Moving Forward album. Out of these I personally like the 1996 version the most.

Sunday 23 July: Plumb – God Help Me

Triggered by a tweet last week, I was curious to discover the sound of Plumb’s next single.

Monday 24 July: VHS Collection – Waiting on the Summer

To be honest, we’re enjoying Summer, not waiting on it. The NYC based VHS Collection was suggested by Spotify upon finishing TeamMate‘s album last week. And out of the 3 remixes on the EP, I really liked the Inukshuk one.

Tuesday 25 July: RAC & Rivers Cuomo – I Still Wanna Know

Weezer‘s Rivers Cuomo joins RAC in the retro pop rock song I Still Wanna Know from RAC’s brand new EGO album.

Wednesday 26 July: Mutemath – Stroll On

Mutemath‘s latest single is Stroll On.

Thursday 27 July: XY&O – What’s Love Got to Do With It

It’s #throwbackthursday. Today a recent cover by XY&O of the classic Tina Turner 1984 hit What’s Love Got to Do With It is featured. First the 1984 video clip shot in New York City. Of course World Trade Center Twin Towers were still there. Next the 2017 feel good summer vibe clip by XY&O.

Friday 28 July: The Diogenes Club – Versailles

Today we visit the Palace of Versailles near Paris, France. Many songs were made about (The Palace of) Versailles. There are even bands that call themselves Versailles. Must be a popular place 😉

Saturday 29 July: Blank & Jones, Jason Caesar – Sun Starts Smiling

Relax because the sun starts smiling with Blank & Jones on.

Sunday 30 July: Armin van Buuren & Josh Cumbee – Sunny Days

Summer vibed this Sunday: Sunny Days by Armin van Buuren & Josh Cumbee.

Monday 31 July Layne – I Want More

Layne agrees with me: I Want More.
