As a follow-up to 2016’s HotSpotify 366 challenge, I created Henk-Jan’s soundtrack to 2017 in Spotify. A song to every single day. New releases, markers to special occasions or throwback anthems.
Saturday, 21 January: Het Goede Doel – België
Yesterday it became clear that my next assignment (starting in 10 days) will be in Brussels, Belgium. A classic Dutch hit for this opportunity.
Sunday, 22 January: Various artists – The Humma Song
This Sunday night Klazien and I went to Gandhi restaurant in Zwolle. I sought advice from Indian scrum team members at ABN AMRO Bank. That proved to be a little awkward since most are vegetarians and didn’t know how meat and fish dishes tasted. The Humma Song from OK Jaanu, a 2017 romantic drama film, is currently one of the top-3 songs in the Indian charts, so let’s have some music played along the curries.
Monday, 23 January: Blaudzun – Press On (Monday’s Child)
Jupiter II is getting a shape. The next single by Blaudzun was released last Friday.
Tuesday, 24 January: Vanbot – Collide
In last Friday’s Release Radar playlist were some fine new tracks, such as Collide by the Swedish electronica act Vanbot.
Wednesday, 25 January: Hannah Kerr – Warrior
Hannah Kerr‘s Warrior from her Overflow album is a kind of wave that banner song. I’m a survivor, oops, I mean: I’m a warrior.
Thursday, 26 January: Joy Williams – Ordinary World
Duran Duran themselves are proud of Joy Williams covering Ordinary World. Who am I to disagree on #throwbackthursday?
.@joywilliams excellent cover of "Ordinary World" is on @iTunes & @AppleMusic now: https://t.co/t8b9PKvs4c pic.twitter.com/bPTx6dUJLt

Friday, 27 January: Tesla Boy – Avoid
I am thankful for the suggestion EQMusic blog to listen to Avoid by the Russian electropop band Tesla Boy. Now you can listen to it as well.
Saturday, 28 January Eisley – Louder Than a Lion
Jesusfreakhideout.com suggested the upcoming Eisley album I’m Only Dreaming with great expectations. Raw instrumentation, mid-tempo, one to listen to. Here’s the lead single.
Sunday, 29 January: Het Vreemdelingencollectief – Dit Is Uw Koninkrijk
We can pray and preach on God’s Kingdom on Sunday. Het Vreemdelingencollectief sang about it a few years ago on their Niemandsland (No Man’s Land) album: a 24/7 everlasting Kingdom.
Monday, 30 January: Steve James & LIGHTS – Warrior
Vanwege “I’m not stopping for you / I’m a fucking warrior.” krijgt de strijdbaarheid van LIGHTS‘ samenwerking met de 18-jarige producer Steve James meteen het stempel explicit in Spotify. De zangeres zet Warrior in een recent interview in het licht van de recente Women’s March: “Especially after the Women’s March, I’m so proud of what women have [accomplished] and will accomplish. [The song] can work for anybody, but I’m obviously coming from a woman’s perspective. I’m a mother in the industry; I still feel like a kid all the time. Any little thing that makes you feel stronger—[when you’re] trying to face the world and trying to make the right decision—is helpful.”
Tuesday, 31 January: Bhi Bhiman – Moving to Brussels
Today’s story. Fortunately I could find an apprproriate song on Spotify as well.
