Marcia Goldlist presented me her poetry meets Bible stories. Enjoying Genesis: The Bible in Rhyme is the first book of the Bible rewritten as rhyming couplets. Paraphrasing the well-known stories from the first book of the Bible on the creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Able, Noah’s ark, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob and Esau and their families, the reader is treated with a fresh encounter of the verses learned by heart or preached on numerous times. It reads smoothly. Just a few examples: “Noah took from the clean animals and the clean birds, and without words, he burnt the offerings well, and God liked the smell. And God decided that never again He would intend, for the world to come to an end.”, and “Now to the man God did tewll, “From now on you must work hard in order to eat no matter where you dwell.” And God also did say, that back to dust man will return one day.”
Goldlists’ renderings from Exodus and Esther are also ready in the Enjoy the Bible series. Presenting stories from the Bible in this way may attract a new audience. Lovely to read.
