Randy Alcorn – Ollie Chandler Collection

ollie chandler collectionIn the Ollie Chandler ebook exclusive 3 suspense detective novels, Deadline, Dominion, and Deception are combined. I started in Deadline, and was surprised it didn’t contain much of a classic crime fiction. For a novel it lacked following the “show, don’t tell principle” of good literature, but proved to be an effort to present conversion to Jesus Christ and the portrait consequences of obedience and disobedience to Him. Award-winning journalist Jake Woods looses 2 friends, Finney and Doc. While Finney awakens in Heaven in is introduced in the afterlife and Kingdom of El Elyon, Doc discovers that he’s hellbound. Jake teams with detective Ollie Chandler to uncover the truth about the accident that caused this tragedy. Most of the book is devoted to sexual freedom, abortion, HIV/AIDS and the reactions from a Christian point of view like the pro-life choice and protests against distribution of condoms to teenagers. Glimpses from heaven, and the progression Jake makes in understanding other people and eventually getting to read the Bible and C.S. LewisMere Christianity take a lot of pages with countless moments that I felt lost in a never ending dreadful story line. A reader’s guide discloses further Alcorn’s agenda to bring his readers to (re)connect with God. It might be a great turn-off when you expect a true murder investigation.

Dominion spins off from Deadline and offers again a glimpse from inside heaven, spiritual searching, reconciliation and hope featuring columnist Clarence Abernathy. Deception brings Ollie to the murder of a Portland State University professor. Joined by journalist Clarence Abernathy and their friend Jake Woods, Ollie is drawn deep into corruption and political tensions that threaten to destroy them–and anyone who tries to help.
